iTop is written in a simple, popular programming language (PHP) that can be customized in an instant. iTop is a relying on an Object Relational Model (ORM) including a powerful state machine. The Web interface is generated automatically from a configuration file that describes your data model including:

 Configuration Items and their attributes (servers, network devices, contacts, contracts, …)
 actions & processes control by the state machine
 html templates to display data the way you want
 attributes to be used by search engines

But for companies who want more detailed customizations, we offer something more: access to the underlying source code.
