iTop 2.x Localization

Contribute to the localization

The table below lists the current localization available for iTop and their percentage of completion.

These languages are currently part of the iTop community package. They are part of the standard installation of iTop. To install or use such a language in iTop simply install iTop and select the desired "default" language during the installation, or for each user when creating a new user.

If you want to contribute to the translation of iTop. You can help by:

  • Improving the translation of one of the languages below: simply download the zip file corresponding to the desired language, expand it into a temporary location and search for the strings containing "~~" or "~*". These strings needs translation. Once your translation is completed, send the files back to support@combodo.com. The modified files will be integrated into the common repository so that they get included into the next build of iTop.
  • Adding support of a new language: Download the template zip file. Expand its content to a temporary location and rename the files starting by xx. with the appropriate ISO two letters code for the language. Also in each dictionary file change the language description at the beginning of the file, and just translate the strings... When you are done, send the files back to support@combodo.com. The modified files will be integrated into the common repository so that they get included into the next build of iTop.

Editing the dictionary files

The "dictionary" files that contain the translations are plain text files that use the UTF-8 Unicode encoding. When editing the files make sure that your text editor supports UTF-8 and does not store a Byte Order Mark (BOM) at the beginning of the file. This is because PHP treats the BOM as whitespace that is directly sent to the browser, which causes troubles to the cookies/session handling.

Testing your localization

To test your localization, simply overwrite the dictionary files that are part of the iTop release with the ones you've just edited. If you are using Advanced PHP Cache (APC),you'll have to clear the cache for new dictionary files to be taken into account. Just restart your web server and the cache will be reset !
